LocalRender
Photoreal product shots — right on your Mac.
macOS · Coming soon
LocalRender turns your CAD model into a product shot that looks photographed. Drag in a STEP file, drop on a material from the library, pick the light — and the image resolves live in the window while you move the camera.
Under the hood a physically based path tracer runs on your Mac’s GPU: glass with real thickness and dispersion, caustics, metals from measured optical data, paints with a clear-coat layer, light that glows through marble and skin.
Everything runs locally. No render farm, no cloud, no upload of your design data — it stays on your Mac.
Core features
CAD in, image out
Ten formats straight in: STEP, IGES, OBJ, STL, PLY, FBX, 3MF, glTF/GLB and USD/USDZ. Colour regions from STEP stay addressable — one material per face group, without splitting the geometry.
A live preview that finishes itself
The viewport already is the renderer: you orbit, move, swap materials — and the image converges in place until it is clean. No switching between preview and final render.
659 materials
135 hand-tuned materials — metals, glass, plastics, wood, stone, fabrics, paints, foams, displays — plus 524 texture sets. Drag & drop onto the part; your own textures work the same way.
Light that is right
Spectral path tracing with caustics, dispersion and volume scattering: a glass casts its bright spot, a diamond sparkles, wax glows from within. Plus curated studio HDRIs and backdrops.
Stills and animation
Images as PNG, TIFF or EXR with render layers, turntables and camera moves as ProRes or H.265 — with motion blur. Decals sit on the part as objects of their own.
100% local
Rendering happens on your Mac’s GPU with Metal ray tracing. Your design data never leaves the device — good for anything under NDA.
FAQ
When can I buy LocalRender?
Not yet — LocalRender is in the works and in use in our own studio. If you want to hear when it is ready, write to support@chochicho.ch.
Do I need internet or a render farm?
No. LocalRender renders entirely on your Mac. Models, materials and images stay local.
Who is LocalRender for?
For industrial designers, product developers and studios who need convincing product images from CAD data fast — hero shots, material studies, variants, turntables. Not an architecture or game tool.
Does it run on Intel Macs or Windows?
No. LocalRender is built for Apple Silicon and uses its GPU and Metal ray tracing directly — that is where the speed comes from.
System requirements
- A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer; hardware ray tracing from M3)
- macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later
- More GPU cores and memory make the image clean up faster
- Runs fully offline
- Not for Intel Macs, Windows, iPhone or iPad
